10 Books for cozy season

As much as I love Halloween, there’s just something magical about the shift that happens on November 1st. Suddenly, the weather is colder, fireplaces are being lit, and you can almost feel the lift in people’s spirits as they look forward to the holidays.

My favorite place to be is cozy on the couch, in front of the fireplace, devouring a good book! And so I thought it was time to share my favorites with you, so you can consume the places, characters, and ideas right along with me!

These are my favorite books that I’ve read in the last year or so. I read books for an escape from reality, so more often than not I will recommend something from the fantasy genre, but there are a couple of run of the mill fiction books here, too. Regardless of the genre, they are the kinds of books that stay with you one way or another. Typically in a very uplifting way.

I’m just going to give you a short reason why I love these books, but click the title or image to read the summary or other reader reviews.

Enjoy!

10 Books to Read for Cozy Season

What Alice Forgot – Liane Moriarty

Yes – that Liane Moriarty. We all know Big Little Lies and 9 Perfect Strangers are a big hit right now, but this is by far my favorite book from this thrilling author!

Reading along as Alice unravels her lost memories – and acts like a completely different person than she once was – made me almost want to be in her situation. It’s like a coming-of-age story for an adult in the middle of her life. I love nothing more than a transformation from bad to good and this hit all the things I look for in a novel.

Hiddensee: A Tale of the Once and Future Nutcracker – Gregory Maguire

“Wicked” gets most of the attention from Gregory Maguire’s fans, but this book blew me away. It’s the perfect read right before Christmas. Hiddensee gives off some major Alchemist vibes. Prepare to be moved to tears and left with a new lease on life.

The Midnight Library – Matt Haig

The best book I’ve read in YEARS. Y’all I am not kidding. This book was amazing. I’ve been going through some shit lately and thinking too much about mortality. This was a beautiful look at life and second chances. If you read nothing else on this list READ THIS ONE.

Sweet Water – Cara Reinard

So much money, so many secrets, and so easy to cover up things that would tarnish the family name. Sweet Water hooked me from the very beginning and leaves you questioning everything until the very end.

Open House – Katie Sise

I decided to read this book because it takes place in Upstate New York (though not as far upstate as where I’m from). There are so many twists and turns in this novel. Just when you think you have it all figured out, you’re thrown yet another curve ball. This is a really quick read and will have you turning the pages as fast as you can.

All Souls Trilogy – Deborah Harkness

If you’re watching the show “A Discovery of Witches” on AMC, you may be loving or hating this right now, but I’ll tell you… the books were brilliant. I’m so happy all three were out once I picked them up so I could tear through them. I absolutely couldn’t put them down. And I’m here to tell you the casting for Matthew in the show is NOT HOT ENOUGH! Haha

You can buy the All Souls Trilogy as a set, or individually:

A Discovery of Witches

Shadow of Night

The Book of Life

Entwine, Raven – Tracey Shearer

I like my fantasy books, can ya tell? Anything with a witch and I’m sold! When I first met Tracey Shearer in a mastermind last year, I was immediately taken with her storytelling ways. I didn’t even know she was an author, yet! I picked up Entwine to see what she was all about and I read it in about 3 days. It was impossible to put down! I had to wait 5 months for Raven to come out and then I consumed it in ONE DAY. Tracey’s ability to paint a picture with words is uncanny – wait til you meet Vivian in Raven! You’ll want to be her next Halloween!

I seriously can’t wait for the 3rd book to come out, maybe I’ll even get some insider information 😉

Have you read any of these or are you planning to read one (or all)? Let me know in the comments. I would love to read your take!
